Juvenile Myelomonocytic Leukemia (JMML)

How is JMML diagnosed?
JMML is diagnosed by testing the blood and bone marrow.

What are the prospects for people with JMML?
The outlook for survival in children with JMML depends a lot on age. Children who are under 1 year of age when they are diagnosed do much better than children who are older than 2 years of age at the time of diagnosis.

Can JMML be eliminated from the body?
Unfortunately, no. Few children with JMML have lasting recoveries.

How is JMML treated?
Standard treatments include chemotherapy, stem cell transplantation, and supportive care, or treatments given to lessen problems caused by the disease.

New therapies are under investigation, including one that targets the kinase protein. It is now being studied in clinical trials.
